1. Introduction and Hardware Configuration

1.1. About ROUTY

ROUTY is an advanced MIDI router designed for Android devices. The application serves as a digital patchbay and signal processor, allowing for flexible communication management between controllers, keyboard instruments, sound modules, and other MIDI gear. Whether you're building a concert rig for the stage or configuring a home studio, ROUTY gives you full control over the flow and modification of MIDI messages in real-time.

1.2. Physical Connection

To start working with the application, you must physically connect your MIDI hardware to your phone or tablet. Since most mobile devices do not have dedicated MIDI ports, the connection is made via the USB port using appropriate accessories.

Step-by-step connection instructions:

  1. Connect the USB OTG adapter to the charging port (USB-C or Micro-USB) on your mobile device.
  2. Plug the USB connector of the MIDI interface (or a USB MIDI controller directly) into the OTG adapter.
  3. Connect the interface plugs to the instrument: the MIDI IN tip to the MIDI OUT port on the instrument (and vice versa – the MIDI OUT plug to the MIDI IN port).

2. User Interface (Home Screen)

2.1. Control Center

The main screen of ROUTY is designed for maximum readability and ergonomics. It serves as a central control panel, from which you have immediate access to all MIDI signal flow configurations. The interface focuses on quick navigation and precise presentation of the active routing state.

2.2. Preset List

The heart of the ROUTY interface is the dynamic preset list. Each preset is an independent set of rules (sets) that determines how MIDI messages should be processed and transmitted.

2.3. Optimization for Mobile Screens

Each expanded preset can be collapsed into a compact bar, displaying only basic information. This allows you to fit dozens of items on one screen without constant scrolling, increasing clarity on stage.

2.4. Personalization

Each item on the list can have its own name, such as "01_Cyber_Track" or "Split: Bass / Lead Synth", ensuring you immediately see which preset to activate.

3. Routing Architecture: Presets, Sets, and Zones

3.1. Data Hierarchy

Define Low Note and High Note to create keyboard splits. For example, assign Bass to the lower octaves and Lead to the upper ones.

3.4. Layering

Define multiple sets sharing the same Key Range to send signals to different targets simultaneously (e.g., Piano + Strings + Bells).

3.5. MIDI Channel Conflicts

It is very important that each set (rule) has a different MIDI output channel defined. When you select a new preset using the "Next Preset" button, Bank Change messages are sent to the output device to switch the selected sounds. If two sets in a given preset share the same MIDI output channel, the sound settings will be determined by the last rule with that output channel in the preset.
